Pattern Server 2 Screenshots

This thing stored patterns and allowed one to express relationships among them. Rather than simple hyperlinks, these relatinoships existed separately from the patterns themselves and could then be used to create and explore a larger structure.

There are many views beyond the ones depicted here.

1. The list of patterns

Patterns are categorized on the left.

2. A single pattern: "Swarm"

3. Adding an attribute to the Swarm pattern

4. Editing the Swarm pattern

this was before nice browser-based WYSIWIG editors and AJAX

6. Create an object

There were no abstract types in the pattern server: everything is a copy of an existing protype. The pattern structure is built up from attributes and elements, and displayed with the hexml hierarchical object-oriented template system

7. the admin interface

Connecting the server functionality to Java object implementation, showing its extensibility. Wish I had shots of the DefineElement and DefineKind lists (that you see on the left), mapping the elements and attributes to Java classes.

8. WebCycle.org

Our attempt to spread our concept and methodology. The pattern server was in its infancy. Too bad the internet bubble burst in 2001!
